Abstract
A four-state study on elderly residents who reside in assisted living communities reveal a significant association with medical comorbidities, social withdrawal, psychosis, agitation, and length of residence in the assisted living facility. Depressive symptoms have been shown to lead to functional impairment in 10-40 percent of people who are age 65 of older. Further research is needed on larger sample sizes. As previously stated, a prevalent limitation of the presented research included small sample sizes. This can limit the generalizability of the findings. In addition, further research would prove beneficial to compare the above modalities side by side. Many treatment modalities including problem solving therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, pharmacotherapy, reminiscence therapy, and nCCR-GD have shown to be beneficial, but there currently aren’t available studies that different therapeutic methods directly.
