Abstract
Medical knowledge and technology are rapidly evolving. Nurses need to continuously adapt their practice to provide the best care for their patients and to meet the financial incentives being applied to hospitals. The need for continuous nursing education is apparent since healthcare continues to advance. A project to the develop an alternative method of continuing nursing education for hospital nurses called "bus stop education" was designed to optimize the retention of new knowledge by addressing the needs of the adult learner. The framework of a hands-on learning approach guided by Malcolm Knowles classic theory on andragogy of learning, Watson's theory on human caring and Benner's nursing theory from novice to expert. The project will describe in detail a hands-on learning program that will benefit the nursing profession. The project was conducted through an in depth research review. The project will then describe the process that will be used in detail for implementation. This method of education if implemented has the potential to facilitate learning and help to make the information memorable, practical, and applicable to their practice setting.
